Although many companies begin using search engine optimization (SEO) to help increase their national - or perhaps international - visibility online, some companies are only concerned about attracting customers in their neighborhood, something experts says is much easier.

As part of its Website Remedies feature, CNNMoney.com gathers a number of experts in an attempt to assist businesses looking for help with their website. Its most recent piece focused on North Carolina-based law firm Conroy & Weinshenker which is looking to boost local traffic.

Pamela Swingley of California-based Savvy Internet Marketing says there is a lot of focus on local search at the moment and notes that creating search engine optimization (SEO) content for local traffic is simpler than trying to lure people from across the country.

"Attracting local search traffic is much easier than optimizing a website for a national or international audience," she told CNNMoney.com. "Local search is starting to really heat up."

The experts say Conroy & Weinshenker should expand their content to help increase their search engine optimization (SEO). The news provider also suggests that the site update its news site at least once a month. While this can have the benefit of increasing SEO, it can also be of assistance to prospective clients.

Many local companies saw an increase in search engine optimization (SEO) earlier this year without doing anything to their websites when Google made local search the default setting for result pages.

Yahoo! Beats Despite Revenue Dip

Internet giant Yahoo!(YHOO Quote) beat analysts' revenue and earnings estimates in its second-quarter results, despite seeing its sales dip 13% compared to the same period last year.

The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based firm posted revenue of $1.57 billion, down from $1.8 billion in the same period last year, but well above analysts' forecast of $1.14 billion.

Yahoo!'s profit, however, grew, and the firm reported earnings of 10 cents a share on net income of $141 million, up from 9 cents a share and $131 million in the prior year's quarter. On a non-GAAP basis, Yahoo! earned 16 cents a share on net income of $229 million, compared to 16 cents a share and $225 million in the same period last year. Analysts had been expecting earnings of 8 cents a share.

"Even in this challenging economic environment, Yahoo! had a solid quarter, reflecting the strength of our offerings for our users and advertisers," said Tim Morse, the Yahoo! CFO, in a statement.

When businesses consider using search engine optimization (SEO) they are often only concerned with how their company performs on Google, but recent statistics show that it might be a good idea to look at what's going on with one of the newest players on the search engine market - Bing.

According to Microsoft, Bing saw an 8 percent increase in unique visitors to the site in June and a survey from the company found that the amount of people who said they would recommend the search engine to a friend doubled in its first month.

Meanwhile, statistics from StatCounter show that in Bing's first month of existence it gave Microsfot an additional 1 percent of the search engine market, with the company holding onto 8.45 percent of the market during the last week of June - up from the 7.41 percent it had during the third week of May.

While Google still remains the 800-pound gorilla in the world of search engines (StatCounter contends that Google has 89.8 percent of the market), companies may be best served by making sure they are implementing search engine optimization (SEO) techniques and are achieving top rankings in a number of search engines.ADNFCR-1513-ID-19267632-ADNFCR
